Who needs movies when you have bibliothecaries?!?

Today was the first snowfall of the season, and the heavy flakes danced through the air like elephants on ice skates. I seriously considered calling it a winter and staying home, but I wanted to see what the humans thought of the weather.

The SRC was abuzz with excitement as patrons pressed their pink noses against the frozen glass. Lazarus was singing Bing Crosby Christmas songs with Katrina to accompany him. Allyson was twirling in the office with a magical gleam in her eyes. Freshmen finished their media fast today, and I've never seen the DVD shelf so empty! Sean's headphones were turned up to drown out the other patrons so he didn't hear his phone telling him, "Carry on my wayward son." The Hannahs were bundled to the ears with blankets, scarves, and fuzzy jackets while Chris, content with shorts and flip-flops, chased turkeys across the street.

Snow sure makes humans act strangely. I think it would be safer to stay at home.... at least until Tuesday (I'd hate to miss minion meeting).

Herbert T. Squirrel: A Biography

Just outside my office window is an impetuous squirrel named Herbert. Herbert plays outside my window every day. The first time I noticed him was the first time he dove headlong into the glass with a great THUMP. At first, I wasn't sure whether to protrude my bottom lip in pity or to laugh. But as time passed, this habit of his (for it WAS a habit) began to cultivate a sense of endearment.

Herbert has become such a beloved friend that will be greatly missed by me and my fellow librarians when fall gives way to the biting cold of winter. Soon he will seclude himself and become sluggish, perhaps never to be seen again. At least, not by me....
